"If it's wet, dry, or sticky
and it's
not yours
put a barrier between you and it"
Funny and easy to remember phrase to ensure compliance! This guides
our Exposure Control Plan. Compliance with the OSHA standard is
important to your medical practice and to ImageFIRST Medical Wear.
We make significant investments to comply. In response to OSHA's
"Occupational Exposures to Bloodborne Pathogens" standard
29 CFR 1910.1030 (effective March 1992) and the Ryan White Comprehensive
AIDS Emergency Act of 1990, ImageFIRST Medical Wear instituted a
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
We
have implemented OSHA's recommended procedures to protect our medical
practice clients and our associates who may be potentially exposed
to the presence of blood and/or body fluids from the handling and
processing of our medical products or from response to an emergency
situation.
"...nearly
all laundry used in patient care can be considerd contaminated."
OSHA CFR 1910.1030 - Preambles
OSHA basically addresses Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) in its standard
- not Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). ImageFIRST Medical Wear
has implemented the Ryan White Act to address HIV risks.
Our Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan implements the required
elements of 1910.1030:
- Associate exposure determination;
- Methods of compliance;
- HBV vaccination and post-exposure evaluation and follow-up;
- Communication of hazards to associates;
- Record keeping procedure; and
- Procedures for evaluation of circumstances surrounding exposure
incidents.
ImageFIRST
Medical Wear employs Universal Precautions, considering all body
fluids as potentially infectious materials. Accordingly, the following
methods are designed to prevent contact with blood or other potentially
infectious materials:
- Engineering and Work Practices Controls;
- Housekeeping; and
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
All applicable ImageFIRST Medical Wear associates are HBV vaccinated
and trained in the hazards of bloodborne pathogens. There is initial
training and annual retraining and certification.
ImageFIRST Medical Wear products are package to prevent the risk
of cross contamination from soiled products. Soiled product containers
and bags at medical practice locations are appropriately marked
for compliance and safety.
Periodic review of our Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
is included as part of our Safety and Health Program Audits.
